All You Need to Know About Giving Tuesday (6 Easy Ways to Give)

The biggest day in nonprofit fundraising is right around the corner, and you can be part of it! With the huge consumerism and self-interest following Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday provides a wholesome outlet to be selfless and give to those in need. Here is everything that you need to know about Giving Tuesday, along with six amazing ways to give!

What is Giving Tuesday?

Giving Tuesday was founded by New York’s 92nd Street Y in 2012. They partnered with the United States Foundation as a day to encourage people to do good. In 2019 Giving Tuesday became its own organization led by Asha Curran. It is a global day of giving where everyone can give back to the less fortunate.

The Purpose of Giving Tuesday

Giving Tuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration. It is a celebration of generosity and the many ways that people give back to their communities and to causes they care about. Giving Tuesday was created in 2012 by the 92nd Street Y’s Arthur Ross Foundation and has grown into a global phenomenon, with millions participating each year.

The purpose of Giving Tuesday is to inspire giving, celebrate generosity, and encourage people to help meet the needs of local communities and organizations. The founders hope that the day will inspire people to think about philanthropy as an ongoing action, not just a one-time donation, and to engage with their community on how best to use their time, talent, and financial resources for positive change.

Giving Tuesday has been endorsed by thousands of organizations worldwide, including celebrities and charitable organizations like Oprah Winfrey, Arianna Huffington, Dr. Oz, New York Mayor Bill de Blasio, and many more!

You can donate your time, money, food, clothes, service, etc. Some approaches that companies take is to have the option to buy a specific object for whoever is in need. For example, somebody could buy a pair of shoes for a child in Africa or buy a stuffed animal for a child in the hospital for the holidays. Another approach is to have the option to donate monthly. These charities want to take an opportunity they can get to receive continuous donations. Having the opportunity to donate monthly could make that happen.

In the end, Giving Tuesday is just a day for everyone to go out of their way to be a little kinder. It gives everyone the opportunity to donate, even if it is just a little. With all the selfishness that comes with the holidays, this gives everyone an opportunity to be a little better and a little kinder to someone who is less fortunate than them.

When is Giving Tuesday?

Giving Tuesday always follows the Tuesday after Thanksgiving and the very next day following

Cyber Monday. This allows companies to plan ahead for the big day. This also creates a bigger space and platform for more companies to join each year.

How to Give

Amazon Smile

Amazon Smile is a very simple way to donate to charity. It’s free to use and allows you to donate at no additional cost to you. That’s right, no cost to you. Go to Amazon Smile to link your account to Amazon Smile for free. They will then donate .5% of your purchases to charities in need. Simply choose Idaho Foster & Adoptive Parent Association as your charity. Now you can help others while you shop.

Donate Directly to IDFAPA

You can visit https://idfapa.org/ways-to-give/ directly to donate and help Idaho foster children in need. Scroll down to the bottom of the page where you will find QR codes that will send you to various opportunities to donate.

Use Social Media

Facebook allows you to choose a charity to donate to at no cost. Choose Idaho Foster & Adoptive Parent Association as your charity to start your donation. Post frequently to allow your post to be seen. The larger the audience, the more money will be made. The more attention your posts receive, the more money the organization will receive. IDFAPA will then take that money to buy clothes, toys, and food for foster kids in Idaho. Facebook also allows you to choose a charity to post for your birthday. People then can help by sending money to foster children for their birthdays. Also, feel free to follow our Instagram and Facebook page to stay up-to-date with fundraising events and updated wishlists.

IDFAPA Wishlist

Ever wonder what Foster children really need? Check out IDFAPA Amazon Wishlist to see what necessities they require. Things like specific sizes of shirts, underwear, or learning toys allow the foster children to be seen and heard while getting the necessities they require while waiting for a family. Log in to your Amazon account, then click on the left bar to display the wedding registry, Wishlist, and more. Click Wishlist, then type in the organization’s name to see what they need this season. Many organizations need more than just canned goods and old toys. These children are real people with real needs. With the Wishlist, you can supply them with needs instead of wants.

Donate Time and Supplies

Make a new goal to set aside time and go through gently used clothes and toys to see how you can help. You can also reach out and donate your time to help the nonprofit organization by helping the kids with their needs at the center.

Give Your Time

Giving your time is one of the most meaningful gifts you can give. Whether it’s volunteering at an organization or taking a moment to listen to someone, giving your time has the power to change lives.

Volunteering is a great way to get involved with causes that matter to you and make a difference in your community.

Why the Donation Experience is Easier Than Ever

The end of the year is a time for reflection and getting ready for fresh starts. If you’ve ever thought about giving back around this time but weren’t sure where to begin, we hope you now know why Giving Tuesday is an excellent opportunity to do so. Every nonprofit is different, but many offer features that make your donation experience one that feels fulfilling and leaves you confident that your money is going safely and directly to your cause of choice. Like any great experience you might have with your favorite apps or online shopping, the donation experience makes giving back on the go even more convenient. The rise in TikTok and video sharing make Giving Tuesday a powerful day of connection and can help you get the word out about the causes you’re supporting or easily learn about new causes that need your support. Regardless of how you choose to support nonprofits, you’ll be joining a global movement for good.

Go Out and Give

If you’re out there looking to give this holiday season or any other time of the year, then look no further. Giving Tuesday is the best day to put aside consumerism and self-interest and instead look outward to those in need. As we wrap up this Giving Tuesday adventure and welcome in a brand new year of philanthropy, we encourage you to be persistent with your giving. Not everyone will become a philanthropist overnight; it takes time for many people to develop and understand their reasons for supporting charitable organizations.

Giving Tuesday is an event that brings people together around the common goal of giving back. It is a national movement to encourage, inspire and reward generosity by putting charities into the spotlight and connecting them with the resources they need to help more people in their community and beyond. Take advantage of this year and an amazing opportunity to give back.
